Dianas Notes from the City

Farewell

Every year I’ve done a recap on the lessons I learned on that specific year. This year I reflected on something a bit different than the previous. I decided to take a meditation class in the beginning of the year and I’ve been doing it on a daily basis since. I have to say It’s probably one of the best investments I’ve made this year, as through meditation, I’ve learned to trust the process.  I’ve learned to put 97% of my energy on the good things in my life and 3% on the things that bother me or are not quite where I wish they were. I have to say 2017 has been one of the best years of my life, with marrying my best friend and trying my best to direct my thoughts towards the good.

I  reflected on something a bit different the past few months… something I noticed as I watched people just let their life go by. I can’t keep track how many people I met this year that just impatiently wait for Friday… for summer to come… for retirement to come… for the weekend to come to do absolutely nothing but work on the house. Every time I talked to these people I asked myself: if I was dying tomorrow would I remember the days I spent home doing nothing, mowing the lawn, or working in the office? Or would I remember the day Kevin and I decided to take a spontaneous road trip somewhere? Or the time we decided to have a Christmas party with friends? I can guarantee you that for me, it wouldn’t be the day I spent cleaning my house or the day I stayed up late working in the office. How about you? Is that what you will be remembering if today was your last day? All I’m saying is don’t let your life just pass you by… which takes me to my second reflection for this year.

I think a lot of us get so consumed by that everyday life that we forget that the most important thing is the people in your life. Your family and friends. Spend time with the people that love you and care about you; and make time to make new friends and memories. As we get older it’s definitely harder to meet new people and keep those connections… but make time for those things because in the end that’s all we have. Have you ever reflected on the same thing? Do you want to have friends/ family by your side in the good and bad times? Or you rather go through them alone? I want to take the time to wish everyone a Happy New Year and remember life is too short to stay in your comfort zone so go out and live!

What did you reflect on this year?
