South Florida Treasures
So how many of you would like to go to a beach in Miami other than South Beach? Are you looking for a beach to stay away from the tourist crowd? Are you interested on visiting a beach within a state park? Bill Baggs Cape Florida State park, located on the tip of Key Biscayne, is a relaxing and scenic alternative to the tourist beaches of South Beach. This park is the home of a historic lighthouse built in 1825 and reconstructed in 1846, and is the oldest standing structure in Miami-Dade County. When we went, we enjoyed walking around the park and sunbathing. The beach was so calm you wouldn’t know you were in a beach in Miami! Also, before getting to the park you go through a small city which looked like a smaller version of Sunny Isles.
The park offers many activities like canoeing, kayaking, camping, hiking, picnic areas, tours to the lighthouse, and many others. If you want to take a lighthouse tour they are offer twice daily from Thursdays through Mondays. I plan on doing a tour next time I visit! There are also two restaurants located in the park: Lighthouse Café and boater’s Grill or you can also reserve a pavilion for grilling.
Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park is constantly listed as one of the best beaches in Miami by Frommers, Dr. Beach America’s foremost Beach Expert, Miami About, State Parks you need to visit in your state, and many more. You don’t need to go distant places in order to enjoy nature. There is a lot of nature in our own backyard. So hop in your car, head to the beach, and enjoy the real Florida.
